TANJUNG MALIM, 11 JANUARY 2016 - His Majesty the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah today announced the Muallim District as the 11th new administrative district in the State of Perak. The declaration was finalized at Sri Tanjong Hall, Tanjung Malim District Council (MDTM). The word mualim is derived from the Arabic words, words related to knowledge and scientists, meaning people professing in religion. The name is very coincidental immortalized to this area based on historical background. In this area, the Sultan Idris Training College or SITC was inaugurated by Sir George Maxwell on 29 November 1922. SITC was the center of knowledge, the local top learning center for Malay children in the pre-independence era, developed to provide teaching training to Malay children Background education in Malay. From this center has been born a line of Malay intelligentsia, which plays a vital role in blowing up the nation's awakening, raising the spirit of nationalism and lighting the struggle for democracy. " said DYMM Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah. According to His Majesty, the elements of knowledge and religion should be the identity of the new district and he hopes that the Muallim district will focus on being developed as a knowledge area and city student base. His Majesty the Sultan of Perak also hoped that the Muallim district development plan would cater to the needs of the various ethnic groups such as education, health, relationships and housing facilities. Also at the ceremony, DYMM Raja Permaisuri Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim; DYTM Raja Muda Perak, Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa; DYTM Raja Puan Besar Perak, Raja Nor Mahani Raja Shahar Shah and DYAM Raja Di Hilir Perak, Raja Iskandar Dzulkarnain Sultan Idris Shah. Also present were YAB Menteri Besar of Perak, Dato Seri Dr. Zambry Bin Abd Kadir; YB Perak State Secretary, Dato Seri Abdul Puhat Bin Mat Nayan; YB. State Legal Advisor, Dato Rohana Binti Abd Malek; YB State Financial Officer, Dato Haji Mohd. Ghazali Bin Jalal and the rank of State Government EXCO. The Muallim District is 93,434.65 hectares with a population density of 69,639 people comprising three mukims, the Slim mukim, the Ulu Bernam West Mukim, and the Ulu Bernam East Mukim covering the towns of Tanjung Malim, Slim and Proton City. Puan Nor Sham Binti Rahman, 43, who previously served as Secretary of the Human Resource Management Division, the Perak State Secretary Office was appointed as Muallim District Officer.
